My pump won’t work! What do I do? Do I need a pump repair?

At some stage we are going to have some problems with our household pump. If you notice it noisy or leaking, you should bring it in to us for a service which could include replacing bearings when they get noisy (left too long you could seize the motor which could be terminal) or replacing seals. We will also check the capacitor. Bearing, seals and capacitors will wear out in time and regular servicing will make sure there is no problem.

However, there may be other problems as well from time to time.

More and more pumps are coming with electronic controllers as in this Onga pump with a Presscontrol on top

      Hi Jenny,
Thanks for your enquiry. It looks like you need a new Presscontrol on your pump. Unfortunately its a bit far for us to come and do the job as we are based in Southern Queensland. I suggest you locate a local pump shop or electrician to do the job for you.

It’s interesting to learn that water well pumps are vulnerable to malfunction too and hearing noises or noticing some leaking is a good sign that it’s in need of a service. That’s perfect to learn since we’ve just got our water pump installed yesterday. I just want to learn what to do in case it acts up on us. Thanks for the informative read about what to do when the water pump isn’t working!

My onga rain water pump only turns on when I turn a rain water tap on near to it but the washing machine doesn’t fill up unless I do this. The washing machine pipe goes into the roof and down the wall.

      Thanks for your enquiry.
Your problem could be a faulty controller or tank very low in water.
If you are in the Ipswich area we could attend if required. If not you would need to find your nearest Pump Shop.

I really appreciate your information that if my pump isn’t starting due to a defective capacitor, I should call a qualified technician for servicing. My husband and I need to get our water pump working soon so we can have the necessary water for our crops. We’ll start looking into a water pump repair specialist in our area.

3rd time – Air in pump due to low tank level – Water level switch was set to low in tank – Bleed air from pump. – repaired myself

Hi, we have a Davey Torrium 2.
We have had this issue since installed around Oct 2019.
    The pump continually cycles.
We have checked the whole property including showers and toilets) for leaks and have found zero.
The pump gets hot, the water coming out of the cold tap can be VERY hot at times. We have had it checked by the installer who says it’s running ‘perfectly
Our electricity bill is thru the roof and I’m at my witts end.
Would appreciate any advice on what’s going on. Is this normal?

Hi. I have an older Davey xp pump with a torrium controller. Currently I have no water due to the controller issuing an error. Single red flash which suggests it’s in protection mode due to loss of prime possibly. I’ve both switched power on/off and pressed the prime button without success.

I’ve checked for leaks and removed the pump to inspect and clean. I’ve reinstalled the pump and went through the setup like it was a new pump to no avail. The only are of concern, and the one I can’t find any or minimal info on is the air tank on the actual pump body. The valve, similar to a Tyre valve leaks and won’t hold air in the chamber. Would this be the #1 problem with the running of the pump? While obviously this is an issue, the reason I ask is from time to time the pump won’t run with an outlet open and I have to turn off/on at the switch, and occasionally the pump will continue to run even with nothing open. Again I have to switch off/on. Hope for some guidance.

I’m not local so I’m asking for any advice or guidance prior to calling a service tech. Thanks.

  14. Interesting to know how pumps can malfunction when it’s left for quite some time which might also be a sign of problems in the bearing. If I was in this industry, I would understand the relevance of this having well-working equipment. It would be nice to hire plumbing services to ensure that you get the benefits of updated equipment from reputable companies.
