Emma’s Pump Problem Solved

Emma recently came in to our shop with a problem. Her tank pump wasn’t working and she wasn ‘t sure why. She had seen all the five star reviews on Google so thought she would try us out.

Steve, one of the technical specialists in store was happy to help her by explaining what could be the problem. He explained it could be the capacitor or the pressure controller.

If it is the capacitor that is the  problem you will probably hear a buzzing sound with out the motor running. If it is the controller, the pump will probably just not turn on.

We can come to you or you can bring your pump to us and we will help you. Here at DJ’s we can help you with advice and actual service and repairs or provide a new pump if that is going to be more economical for you.

Solar Pump Project

When Justin needed help with his irrigation project, he knew that DJ’s Electric Motor and Pump Centre would be able to help – DJ’s had provided great service on previous jobs.

The problem was to pump from a dam with a pipe run of almost a kilometer and 130 meters of static head height. That’s a lot of friction loss to overcome! And still the need for some water at the end. The water was to irrigate five sectors of fruit groves and fill several tanks.

The solution was to install a solar pump (because of distance from power and the for long-term economy). Because of the total head required (including distance and physical height) we chose to use a submersible borehole pump in a shroud and mount it under a float. This solution was the most economical, providing high pressure and good flow. The products used were  a Bianco Solar array consisting of 10 x 315 watt panels and a DAB S4C39SOL solar borehole pump with a 200m head and a max flow of 70 lpm.

Other equipment needed for the job included the Icon Solar Controller, pressure switches and float valves for the tank filling. We also supplied backup units including a Westinghouse 8.5kva generator and an Onga Blaze firefighter pump for transfer from one dam to the other.

Despite the challenges of installing the pump using existing lines in poor condition and the nature of the terrain, the installation ticked all the boxes that Justins had requested. He now has a reliable source of water with negligible running costs due to the solar power to irrigate the existing, and yet to be planted, fruit trees.

If you need a solution to your pumping problem, call DJ’s Electric Motor and Pump Centre. We can help! We have the expertise.

Pool Pump Servicing – It Is Time!

Why Servicing Your Pool Pump Is Important.

In order to keep your water fresh, clean and hygienic your most important piece of equipment needs to be fully functioning.  Without your pump the water becomes stagnant and bacteria starts to settle and grow.  Once the pool water is out of balance it can take weeks to clean and return to safe levels of cleanliness ready for swimming.

Parts in the pumps can become worn over time such as the bearings, o-rings, seals and the housing unit.  If these parts are not maintained the pump begins to leak and make excessive noise and can over heat leading to sort circuiting or other problems.

Things you can do at home.

Regularly cleaning the pump strainer, checking equipment.  While the pump is running take the time to check for leaks and listen for unusual sounds. Keeping the pool free from large debris (such as leaves and sticks) can also help in the longevity of your pump – these items can sometimes get stuck in the impeller causing low effectiveness. Not maintaining your pump can lead to expensive repairs.

Take a look at our website for swimming pool equipment.

My Pump Won’t Work. What Do I Do?

At some stage we are going to have some problems with our household pump. If you notice it noisy or leaking, you should bring it in to us for a service which could include replacing bearings when they get noisy (left too long you could seize the motor which could be terminal) or replacing seals. We will also check the capacitor. Bearing, seals and capacitors will wear out in time and regular servicing will make sure there is no problem.

However, there may be other problems as well from time to time.

If your pump has a pressure tank like this Davey XP350, then check the list.

Save On Water Costs

Facts on Water Costs

WaterPic800

State bulk water charge + Water usage charge in Qld is $3.50 per 1000 Litres.

One tap using 10 litres/min would take 1.4 Hours to pump 1000 Litres.

Max charge for electricity is 25c/KW Hour. So to pump 1000L of water would cost Max of 35 cents. This is a saving of $3.15 per 1000 Litres used. Even less if you have SOLAR. Also fit an ECO PUMP & reduce power consumption even more.

Average home uses around 40,000 Litres per quarter. Most homes on tank & mains only have the tank connected to laundry, toilet & one outside tap which accounts for more than half of water used.

That is an average of $63 per Quarter saved. $250 per year.

Put the whole house on tank water & save more. Yes there is the ongoing   cost of filters & maintenance.

Filters take the nasties out of the water, and for those against the extras the   water board puts into our water. There is none, if the proper filtration is fitted.

Remember, during the drought of a few years ago. The Government encouraged us all to put in water tanks & pumps to save a precious resource. Even made it compulsory to fit a tank to a new home. Once the drought was over the government changed its mind.

Could it have something to do with the $3.50 per kl we have to pay to the government. A great money earner for them. We like to think that we are saving a precious resource & we will be prepared the next time the dams run low in water. It’s only a question of when this will happen, not if.
